Switch the Stick

Switch the Stick

Whether you are in the UK (cotton buds) the USA (Q-tips) or elsewhere, use your buying power to influence positive change and chose Q-tips made with paper sticks (instead of plastic sticks), because they are better for the environment. Something like millions of Q-tips are flushed down the toilet each year, being so small they pass through sewage filters into rivers and seas. The plastic is then eaten and even ends up in our food chain.

Natalie Fee, founder of City to Sea , was fed up with finding them in the water, so she created a petition asking retailers to ‘switch the stick.’ 157,000 people signed a petition to ask UK retailers to stop making Q-tips with plastic sticks. They listened and will make the switch from plastic to paper, stopping over 320 tons of single-use plastic being produced each year.
