Most sunscreens not only cause harm to coral reefs, but also to the fish and other creatures that live in the ocean. Oxybenzone, a common chemical found in most sunscreens, is toxic to the symbiotic algae that live within corals. Non-biodradable sunscreen is being banned in many resorts, and Hawaii also bans some sunscreens to protect their coral reefs.
