E Ointment

Vitamine E Natural Ointment

Image

I really like this very simple and natural skin ointment. I use it on my hands after I have been working in my garden, and before I settle down in front of my computer. It's made with Aloe Vera, Vitamin E and Wheat Germ oil.

Eco Tip: Mercury Hair Testing

Mercury Hair Testing

Find out how much Mercury you have in your body by sending in a sample of your hair and $20 to the Sierra Club. For directions on how to do it, download this pdf.

You can also email the EPA administrator (contact info found on Sierra Club website) and demand stronger laws on preventing air pollution. Did you know... that most mercury comes from coal-fired power plants?

Eat Cleaner

eat cleanerWash pesticides off your fruit and vegetables

I always wash all fruit and vegetables before I eat them however that may not be enough. I was at an EWG dinner recently and met Mareya, who as a concerned mom, came up with this helpful product called "Eat Cleaner". The Eat Cleaner removes pathogens such as dreaded Salmonella and E.coli. It also removes waxes, contaminants, and harmful pesticides from produce. The Eat Cleaner is oderless, tasteless and biodegradable and increases shelf life of favorite fruits and vegetables.

Health Tips

March 2011

Traumeel

Traumeel - Homeopathic and safe alternative to anti-inflammatory drugs. Rub Traumeel gel onto your skin for temporary relief of bruises, sprains and muscle aches. I used this often when my children were younger and helped them heal quickly from their sports related injuries.

I read this list of "what are the best vegetables for good health" on Dr.Mercola's blog site. This is one of those lists that we should all post on our fridges!

Whether you're munching them raw or juicing, some vegetables contain more health building nutrients than others. This list details some of the best vegetables for your health.

Tata Harper

For the New Year, do yourself a huge favor and get rid of all beauty products you use that have Parabens in them (Methyl, Propyl, Butyl, Ethyl) because they are hormone disrupters and are linked to increased risk of cancer.

Look at your Shampoo, Conditioner, Styling Gel, Hair Lotion, Body Lotion, Sunscreen and many types of Makeup. I use a couple of skincare products by Tata Harper and they are my favorite of all the ones I have tested over the last 4 years! If you are interested in trying them out, here is a link to buy a sample selection.

DECEMBER 2010

According to Livescience.com, the most powerful weapon someone has during cold season is to go out, on a near-daily basis, and put in at least a 30-minute walk. More frequent exercise gets immune cells circulating and appears to put them on alert.

If you suffer from Sinusitis: Honey offers antioxidants that help mend mucous membranes because it's a source of bacteria-fighting hydrogene peroxide. All varieties can help kill off sinusitis related pathogens.

OCTOBER 2010

Drinking water at the correct time maximizes its effectiveness on the Human Body:  Drink 2 glasses of water after waking up-helps activate internal organs.  Drink 2 glasses of water before a meal-helps you eat less, and helps digestion.  Drink 1 glass of water before taking a bath-helps lower blood pressure.

JULY 2010

The best essential oils that work well against mosquitoes are lemon eucalyptus oil and citronella oil. Add a few drops to an aromatherapy diffuser and keep your home mosquito free. You can find my favorite diffuser available in my store.

The Food Guide: Download the iPhone app or a PDF version of the guide which lists the produce to buy organic and which conventionally grown fruits and vegetable are ok if organic isn't available.

Avoid using mothballs in your closets because they contain a pesticide the EPA links to cataracts, liver and neurological damage. If you want to learn more, visit the EPA's website.

FEBRUARY 2010

My new favorite deep conditioner for winter dry hair: heat 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of olive oil on the stove. When it cools enough to handle, slowly pour on your hair/scalp, massaging it all in. Wrap your head in a warm towel (I microwaved mine for 20 seconds) and leave on for an hour and then wash your hair.

To relieve a cold, hang a bundle of eucalyptus from your shower curtain. The steam from a hot shower will release the naturally de-congesting eucalyptus oils. It is good for about 2 weeks.

JANUARY 2010

For the tea drinkers: Only use organic tea. Regular tea is full of pesticides, which aren't washed off when the leaves are picked.

AUGUST 2009

Do make sure that you wipe the lid of all cans, juice boxes, etc. before you open them. Many have nasty bacteria and germs from the rats doing the unmentionable whilst going to and fro around the warehouses where these products are stored.

JULY 2009

Bring your own thermos and food containers when you get take out coffee or food. Don't use Styrofoam containers because they are made with cancer causing benzene and the brain toxin styrene, which can migrate into your food. Plus, only 1% of the 15 million tons of polystyrene/Styrofoam made each year gets recycled.

JUNE 2009

Do not drink bottled water that has been left in a car. The heat reacts with the chemicals in the plastic of the bottle, which then releases dioxin into the water. Dioxin is a toxin increasingly found in breast cancer tissue.
