FEBRUARY 2010 NEWSLETTER

As we get older, most of us realize that giving and receiving love and the relationships we have with the people in our lives mean the most to us.  One way you can show a person how much you love them is by giving them something that will keep them healthy or, at the very least, happy and comfortable, thanks to you and your thoughtfulness.

A Love towel, an organic  Fair Trade hand towel, to be used instead of paper towels, helps the user to reuse something, save money and waste less. The bag of 100% organic Cotton balls keeps that special person from being exposed to pesticides used when growing the cotton for regular cotton balls.

A Hot Water Bottle helps them feel cozy and soothed when they need it and they will think of you every time they use it. An Ice Pack brings relief to an aching shoulder, or other muscle pain.

Giving someone you care about a Reusable water bottle shows that you care that they should not be exposed to harmful chemicals from plastic water bottles. A very Soft Black blanket makes the receiver feel especially loved because they can wrap themselves in its cozy softness on a couch, in bed or for a walk through the garden, together, with you.

Take care,

Priscilla Woolworth

I'm excited to add a new feature to my newsletter to call out the many amazing designs that not only make our world a safer, greener place, but aid humanity through their beauty or practicality.  This month, I'm featuring the Hippo Roller, an amazing device that allows one to carry up to 24 gallons of water efficiently in a rolling barrel.  It frees villagers from the difficult task of collecting water every day, a job that often takes several hours and can result in injury.  The project is supported by Engineers Without Borders, a group with over 350 chapters working worldwide to create a more stable and prosperous world through their designs.  Read more about the hippo roller here.

I hope everyone has had a chance to see The Story of Stuff, a remarkable piece about where our "stuff" comes from and where it goes once we are done with it.  Web-Filmmaker Annie Leonard has now created another informative, entertaining and creative way to teach us all about Cap and Trade, the leading climate solution being discussed in Copenhagen and on Capitol Hill.  Click here to watch this awesome web video!

Ingredients:
- 4 cups cooked white rice
- 2 eggs (more if desired)- 1/2 cup green peas (frozen)
- 6 green onions (scallions), white part only, sliced
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce, or as needed
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil for stir-frying, as needed and a Wok is essential
g

1)  Beat the eggs lightly with chopsticks.
2)  Dice the green onions.
3)  Heat wok and add oil. When wok is warm, pour in the egg mixture and cook over medium heat, turning over once. When done, just set aside in a bowl.
4)  Stir-fry the green onion/scallion on high heat for a few moments, and add the green peas, and set aside.
5)  Add oil, turn down the heat to medium and stir-fry the rice. Add onion/scallion and green peas and combine thoroughly. Add the egg at the end and serve warm
6) You can add any number of other ingredients, such as sliced mushrooms, slivered carrots, chopped cooked chicken, cooked meats or cooked shrimp.
** I added shredded carrot at the end of cooking to the one in the photo, but you can also add bean sprouts and baby bok choy. Delicious!**

You can get all your store receipts online, for free www .alletronic.com.  Not only does this help reduce clutter, but BPA's (Bisphenol A), a chemical compound found in packaging, can be found in paper receipts, which has been linked to hormonal disruptions in children.

To relieve a cold, hang a bundle of eucalyptus from your shower curtain. The steam from a hot shower will release the naturally de-congesting eucalyptus oils. It is good for about 2 weeks.
My new favorite deep conditioner for winter dry hair: heat 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of olive oil on the stove. When it cools enough to handle, slowly pour on your hair/scalp, massaging it all in. Wrap your head in a warm towel (I microwaved mine for 20 seconds) and leave on for an hour and then wash your hair.
